Changes to my study programme

As I wrote in other posts, I study sociology. Before entering the race, the mesh was changed, so I am part of the first generation with the new sociology mesh. Although there were some changes in the fields, I think that basically the career remains the same, the university trains us much more to be academic and theoretical than to work in a more practical sense.

Most of the subjects I have are from sociological theory (which I really like), history, quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, statistics, and very little about economics and public politics.

The degree lasts 5 years, which is normal in most Chilean universities, however I consider that the academic burden is very heavy due to the number of courses that must be taken each semester, although in the third year we can take courses electives (which is good because it gives us the opportunity to study what we like) there are subjects of the mesh that can be compressed and eliminated prioritizing the most important branches such as theories and methodologies.

As for infrastructure, the library leaves a lot to be desired in terms of space, noise, etc. Although it works as a study room to do group work, I think it would be a good idea to transform the study room in the basement into a real library like the library of philosophy and humanities and as for technology it would be very good, they can also enable another room computer science for all the people of the faculty.

Finally, the teaching models are varied since the teachers have different methods, but most have a rigid teaching model that in the end is stressful with all the academic load, although I can highlight the willingness of most of the teachers of the race in terms of the date changes in different evaluations and in the conversation that you can have with them for personal cases.

  1. I also think that the workload is stressful and that the teaching method is very theoretical and not very practical.

  2. It seems that the same history repeats itself in other social science , I approve of having a library like the one of f philosophy-
