Changes to my study programme

As I wrote in other posts, I study sociology. Before entering the race, the mesh was changed, so I am part of the first generation with the new sociology mesh. Although there were some changes in the fields, I think that basically the career remains the same, the university trains us much more to be academic and theoretical than to work in a more practical sense. Most of the subjects I have are from sociological theory (which I really like), history, quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, statistics, and very little about economics and public politics. The degree lasts 5 years, which is normal in most Chilean universities, however I consider that the academic burden is very heavy due to the number of courses that must be taken each semester, although in the third year we can take courses electives (which is good because it gives us the opportunity to study what we like) there are subjects of the mesh that can be compressed and eliminated prioritizing the most importan...

Personal opinions

Violence on television.  I consider that showing it isn't exactly an evil in itself, I don't believe in the argument that seeing it encourages you to be a violent person. Because I think this is rather a reflection of what you see in everyday life, the problem is as shown, what are the warnings and age restrictions,  what type of people are seeing this and what is the criticism or reflection that you can give to these television contents. Tattoos.  I love tattoos and I don't have much to say about it, I consider that people can adorn their bodies as they want. I also think that it isn't necessary to give a specific meaning to what you have in your body, personally the only thing I consider when getting a tattoo is if I would like this in a longer time since it lasts forever and it must be lazy to erase one. I think that older people give a lot of importance to these issues and only discriminate by stereotypes that aren't longer valid now Recycling.   ...

Animated Disney/Pixar Character

Image
This week's theme is about a favorite Disney or pixar animated character. I love animated movies, so I have really seen many and I try to keep up with the new Disney movies, this is why I don't think I have a favorite character, because whenever I see a new movie, I like another character and so I never decide on one. But, if I had to choose a character right now it would be Milo Tatch from the movie Atlantis: the lost empire. It is a movie from the 2000s but lately I have seen it again and I love it. Milo Tatch is the main character of the movie. He is a cartographer and linguist who studies this mysterious lost empire and who finally embarks on an expedition financed by a millionaire in search of Atlantis. I really like this character because when he arrives at this place he realizes that many of the people who are in the expedition are there under the logics of the power of money, since they want to take the heart of Atlantis, which is basically a crystal, and th...

postgraduate studies

Today's topic is to write about graduate studies. Personally, I am not very enthusiastic about the idea of continuing to study immediately after finishing my degree and I am not completely determined to do a master's degree,  although I have considered it because there are different subjects that attract my attention and I would like to deepen them. But the idea of continuing to study at the university or in an academic system like that terrifies me a little, because I feel like most of my life has gone away at school and university in addition to work. If I decide to continue my studies after university I would like to specialize in issues of sexuality, affectivity and gender, I have researched a little about where to carry out these studies and I know that in Chile there are small accessible graduates from different schools, this is an idea that I really like it, because being short would allow me to rest from my studies for a moment and work without so many worr...

my future job

My future work is really a subject that worries me a lot. I am currently studying sociology and I am often asked: what do sociologists do? And the truth is that even I don't know how to respond. I know there are many areas in which I can develop, such as academia, research, public politics, although I have not yet decided what I really want to do, I think I will probably work in research for development, interventions from institutions such as foundations or NGOs. Because I find that theoretical work is a bit boring and I would like to be involved in something concrete and not be so abstract because it overwhelms me. As for the specialties, I did not plan to continue studying, however I think it is likely that I regret this idea and take a master's degree in sexuality, on the other hand, most of my elective courses are on feminism, and research methodologies, which are topics that I like. I would like to work here in Chile, because I feel that I know the context here w...

books

The topic of this blog is books. I haven't read literature for a long time for pleasure, because the university has saturated me with academic texts that don't leave me time, so I will write about a book I read when I went to school, that many probably know and have read The Animal Farm is a fiction book written by George Orwell. It tells the story of a farm in which the animals based on the ideals of a pig called the "old elder", rebel against the humans who manage it, expelling them and creating a new system of government managed by pigs, based on seven laws. In this new system, two pigs named Snowball and Napoleon have power disputes, which ultimately lead to the government failing and ending up becoming a tyranny. I like this book a lot, because although the author makes a clear reference to the history of the Soviet Union, it can be extended to any context, which is very educational because it makes it very easy to understand the idea of corruption by m...

movies and series

Image
I watch a lot of series and movies and generally, I don't have favorites among them, but the truth is that I could say that my favorite type of movie is all the cartoon and anime movies. In this case I will talk from "inside out" a movie that I love and I never get tired of seeing. "Inside out", in my opinion it is one of the best animation movies in Disney, it was produced by pixar studios, directed by Pete Docter and Ronnie del carmen and premiered in 2015. .  The film is about the emotions of an 11 year old girl called Riley, who moves her outside the city where he lived, due to the work of her dads. In this context the film personifies the main emotions of the brain which are: joy, sadness, anger, fear and disgust, they control Riley's brain and have internal disputes, especially joy and sadness. i really love this movie because you can undestand all the conflicts and you can laugh as you can also cry, the truth is that the film it is...
